208 Summer Street, Portland

Middlesex Habitat purchased the property on Summer Street, in December 2014 and construction began at 208 Summer Street in May 2018. The 15th Middlesex Habitat for Humanity (MHFH) house was built for the Fitzpatrick family pictured.

The 208 Summer Street Build was the first designated Military Build for MHFH. Dustin is a United States Marine Corps Combat Veteran, who served in Afghanistan. Yiran grew up in China and emigrated to the U.S. ten years ago. Currently, Dustin is in school for International Business and Yiran is working on a Masters in Math. The family was beyond thrilled to partner with Habitat, and the people who helped make their dreams come true!

As partners with Middlesex Habitat, the homeowners participated in the construction of their home, completing over 400 hours of “sweat equity” in construction and with other Habitat for Humanity activities.

The compact three-bedroom house was being constructed to meet Energy Star standards with more insulation than required by code and a roof orientated to allow future installation of solar panels. The first floor has an accessible half-bath, kitchen, and living area configured to ADA standards.

The house design was developed with assistance from the former nonprofit Architecture for Humanity New Haven. LRC provided extensive civil engineering and wetlands drawings pro-bono and Morrissey Engineering, LLC provided structural engineering consulting at no cost.
