Local single mother, daughter selected to receive Habitat home

MIDDLETOWN — “This is our big Christmas present,” said 10-year-old Shannon Walden on a stifling August afternoon as she sat on bundles of siding outside her future home on Hubbard Street.

Shannon and her mom, Robin, have been selected for a Habitat for Humanity house, and it’s their goal to be in the new house by Dec. 1, to take advantage of the first-time home buyer tax credit.
